Honouring Remembrance Day in Sea to Sky School District - November 11, 2024

On Remembrance Day, the Sea to Sky School District honours the sacrifices of Canada’s veterans, including Indigenous veterans and all those who continue to serve. In the days leading up to Remembrance Day, students across our schools participated in ceremonies, created artwork, and learned about Canada’s history of service. These activities encourage reflection on the courage, resilience, and dedication of those who defended our freedoms, reminding us of the importance of peace, unity, and respect.

Honouring Indigenous Veterans Day

In honour of Indigenous Veterans Day on November 8, the Sea to Sky School District recognizes the sacrifices and contributions of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit veterans who have served in uniform. Indigenous peoples in Canada have a long-standing history of military service, with thousands bravely enlisting during major conflicts, from World War I and World War II to present-day peacekeeping missions. Their courage, resilience, and dedication to peace have left a lasting impact on Canada and the world. Today, we express our gratitude to all Indigenous veterans as we acknowledge their invaluable role in shaping our shared history and protecting our freedoms. To learn more, visit the Indigenous Veterans, click here. In honour of Indigenous Veterans Day, all school and district sites will lower the Canadian Flag to half-mast, and the flags will remain at half-mast until Remembrance Day.

Principal's Message

Welcome to Howe Sound Secondary. We are a vibrant school community learning together on the ancestral and unceded territory of the Skwxwú7mesh nation. At our school we believe that diversity is a strength and inclusion is a right and we strive to create a safe and inclusive environment where all students feel they belong. Our goal as a school is to ensure that all of our students graduate with dignity, purpose and options.

We have a great diversity of programs at HSS. We offer students the opportunity to graduate with a Double Dogwood diploma in French Immersion. We also offer dual-credit courses in partnership with Kwantlen Polytechnic University (Level 1 Carpentry & Electrical) and Vancouver Community College (Professional Cook 1). Our art programs, both visual and performing, provide students with an opportunity to be creative and our athletics teams have had great success against some very competitive schools. Our Outdoor Education program is an opportunity for students to experience new adventures outdoors, learn new skills, and discover their individual strengths. We also engage with community partners to provide learning experiences within the community such as our school farm which also supports our Farm and Community Leadership program.

We are committed to providing a safe, high-quality learning experience focused on the individual needs of each student. We strive to empower our students to become creative problem-solvers, critical and innovative thinkers, and inspired learners ready to thrive in their post-secondary endeavours.

Continued parent engagement is critical through the grad program years and we encourage parents to actively communicate with staff, attend school functions and learning opportunities as well as attend Parent Advisory Council (PAC) meetings when possible. Be sure to check our website for meeting details.

As your school principal, I feel privileged to walk alongside your child during their time at HSS. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me via email - [email protected]

Sincerely,

Ms. Erin Boisvert,
Principal
